Focus on What You Want, Not What You Don’t!

The biggest obstacle standing in the way of most people’s success isn’t external—it’s internal. It’s the limiting beliefs and negative narratives we tell ourselves that hold us back. The first step to overcoming this is to change the way you speak to yourself.
Think about it: if you’re constantly telling yourself that you can’t do something, that others have better luck than you, or that your past or circumstances define your future, you're reinforcing a self-imposed limit. You’re focusing on what you don't want, and that becomes your reality.
Our minds don't distinguish between what’s real and what’s imagined. When you're stuck in a cycle of negativity, your brain plays it out over and over. This repeated focus on your limitations becomes the centre of your thoughts, and the energy that flows through your mind is directed toward these limiting beliefs. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy—what you believe, you create.

There’s a powerful saying that goes, “Your energy flows where your mind goes.” So, if you’re focusing on what’s not working, that’s where your energy will go. And guess what? That’s exactly what you’ll get more of.
But here’s the good news: you have the power to change that. It all starts with being kinder to yourself. It starts with shifting your mindset and focusing on what you want, not what you don’t want. It’s time to turn your attention to your goals, your dreams, and the positive outcomes you want to create in your life.
For example, if you want to quit smoking, don’t focus on “not smoking.” If you tell yourself, “I’m not going to have a cigarette,” you’re still thinking about cigarettes. Instead, focus on living a healthier lifestyle. Picture yourself breathing easier, feeling more energetic, and being around longer to enjoy life with your loved ones. When you shift the focus from what you’re trying to avoid to the life you’re trying to create, you’re much more likely to succeed.
The key here is simple: focus on what you want, not what you don’t want. When you do that, your energy shifts, your mindset improves, and your actions begin to align with your goals.
So, take a moment today to ask yourself: What do I want? And then, start changing your narrative. Be kind to yourself, and direct your energy toward your desires, not your fears.
